The Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital has developed a valuable resource, Our Journey^TM with Central Line, aimed at assisting families of children transitioning home with a central line. This tool is essential in equipping parents with the necessary knowledge to provide safe and effective care for their children once they leave the hospital.

During a hospital stay, parents often encounter a barrage of medical terminology, which can be overwhelming. Healthcare providers may believe they are communicating clearly; however, it is crucial to verify that parents fully comprehend the instructions given. The ability to articulate this information in one's own words serves as a strong indicator of understanding.

The Our Journey^TM with Central Line app is crafted to:

• Enhance communication between families and healthcare professionals.
• Guide parents in identifying essential knowledge for safely caring for their child at home.
• Provide a supportive platform for parents to express uncertainties and ask questions.
• Encourage families to identify what they need to teach back or demonstrate to their healthcare provider, thus allowing for clarification and reinforcement of crucial information.
• Empower families to confidently manage their child's post-discharge care, recognize potential issues, and respond appropriately.

About The Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital: Founded in 1990 in memory of Emily Anderson, who bravely battled a rare leukemia before her untimely passing just shy of her seventh birthday, The Emily Center was established out of a necessity for accessible, comprehensible pediatric health information.
